We’ve been in Florida for a week, and we’ve traveled through clouds, rain, more rain, more clouds, and we’ve worn every jacket in our suitcases in layers because it’s been cold too.
But not now. The Masters jog took place in weather that even we San Diegans would label perfect. The east coasters were pleased, the Californians were blase, but the Europeans were thrilled beyond belief to be in that Disneyland-For-Equestrians, Wellington.
Isabel Werth, (who is here with top horse Satchmo, adorable baby Frederik and sister/babysitter Claudia) said that she couldn’t remember having such a cold winter, with so much snow, as they’ve had this year. For her, as well as all the other Europeans, it’s been a joy and relief to come to south Florida, where even though it’s been raining, there is no ice.
The jog itself was about as relaxed as I’ve seen a jog, with all horses behaving and passing. There were two awards, sponsored by TailRx: Best Conditioned, won by Anja Ploenzke’s Le Mont D’or, and Best Tail, won by Ulla Salzgaber’s beautifully groomed Wakana.
We start with the Grand Prix on Thursday – cross your fingers for continued beautiful weather!
