May your heart’s desire be close at hand this Valentine’s Day!
That’s right, the Little Prince is five years old today. He says he doesn’t feel a day over four.
He’s had a busy summer, like the rest of us: entertaining the family, swimming, playing tennis, chasing birds, barking at things that inspire him. For his birthday dinner he had chicken and pasta. Don’t tell anyone, but he also enjoyed a drip of his namesake.
This morning I was unpacking a set of photo prints that had just come back from my lab. One of them was a mounted 16×20 of this photo:
Tinto woke up from one of his series of morning naps and I stood this photo up on the floor so he could see it. Well! You would think that a real dog had beamed down into Tinto’s office! Not only was he highly incensed that this little whippersnapper had the audacity to enter his space, he was upset with me for allowing this to happen. He wanted to know where the rest of the dog was, and why it disappeared when I turned the panel sideways. He finally walked out of the room in a huff. I wish I’d had a video camera!
I’ve seen Tinto watch himself in the mirror, but he’s never reacted to a printed image of another dog.
How about your dogs? What do they do with mirrors, or with pictures of dogs?
