It’s always a pleasure to see some of the top horses and riders in the world. But with so many of the big competitions taking place in indoor arenas, or covered arenas, or in the rain, getting to shoot in beautiful sunshine, with a bunch of my photographer friends nearby, well, that’s a fine day.
Oh, and when the home town boy wins the Grand Prix, well, that’s a really, really fine day! Ravel and Steffen Peters turned in a smooth and elegant test, besting Anky and Salinero and Isabel and Satchmo. Ravel did give us all a start (including Steffen) in the honor round when he took issue with being the only horse in that wide open, lonely arena, and aimed for the in gate at full power…. but even though Steffen said he felt like he was riding a locomotive, he had him back under control before anything happened.
Here’s a gallery of photos.
